Question Tag คือ กลุ่มคำที่ต่อท้ายประโยค เพื่อทำให้เป็นประโยคคำถาม ใช้ในบทสนทนาทั่วๆ ไป ใช้เพื่อถามที่จะย้ำเพื่อความแน่ใจว่าสิ่งที่ผู้พูด พูดนั้นเป็นความจริงหรือไม่ โครงสร้างของประโยคหลัก และ Question Tag จะสัมพันธ์กัน เป็น Tense เดียวกันนั่นเอง
โครงสร้างประโยค Question Tag มีหลักการ ดังนี้
1. ถ้าประโยคหลักเป็นบอกเล่า, Question Tag จะเป็นคำถามเชิงปฏิเสธ (มี Not) เช่น
- Ann is here, isn’t here? แอนอยู่ที่นี่ช่หรือไม่
- They have left, haven’t they? พวกเขาไปแล้วใช่หรือไม่
- Jane can swim, can’t she? เจนสามรถว่ายน้ำได้ใช่หรือไม่
- I’m late, aren’t I? ฉันมาสาย ไม่ใช่รึ *
บ้างก็ใช้ am I not?, aren’t I?, amn’t I?, ain’t I?
2. ถ้าประโยคหลักเป็นปฏิเสธ, Question Tag จะเป็นคำถามเชิงบอกเล่า (ไม่มี Not)
- You don’t know Alice, do you? คุณไม่รู้จักอลิซใช่หรือไหม
- Sara can’t speak chinese, can she? ซาร่าพูดภาษาจีนไม่ได้ใช่หรือไหม
- You weren’t at home last night, were you? คุณไม่ได้อยู่บ้านเมื่อคืนนี้ใช่ไหม
3. ถ้าประโยคหลักเป็น There is, There are / There was, There were (แปลว่า มี) ประโยค Question Tag ต้องใช้ is there, are there/ was there, were there
- There is a post office on the corner, isn’t there? มีไปรษณีย์อยู่ตรงมุมถนน ไม่ใช่รึหรอ
- There aren’t many students in the room, are there? มีนักเรียนไม่มากในห้องเรียน ใช่ไหม
- There was a motorcycle here yesterday, wasn’t there? มีรถมอเตอร์ไซค์คันหนึ่งตรงนี้เมื่อวานนี้ ไม่ใช่หรอ
4. ถ้าประโยคหลักเป็น can ,could , may , might , will , shall, ought to ,should ,etc….จะใช้กริยาช่วยเหล่านี้เป็น question tag ได้
- She can do the exam well , can’t she? หล่อนทำข้อสอบได้ดีไม่ใช่หรอ
- You ought to study hard , oughtn’t you? คุณเรียนหนังสือหนัก ไม่ใช่หรอ
5. ถ้าประโยคหลักเป็น let’s+ V1, Question Tag ต้องใช้ shall we?
- Let’s go shopping, shall we ? พวกเราไปชอปปิ้งกันเถอะ
- Let’s watch movie, shall we? พวกเราดูหนังกันเถอะ
6. ถ้าประโยคหลักเป็น Let + obj + V1, Question Tag ต้องใช้ will you / won’t you ?
- Let me go out, will you/ won’t you ? พวกเราออกไปข้างนอกกันเถอะ
7. ถ้าประโยคหลักเป็น Everybody, everyone, someone, somebody, Question Tag ต้องใช้ they ?
- Somebody borrowed your money, didn’t they ? ใครบางคนยืมเงินคุณใช่ไหม
8. ถ้าประโยคหน้าเป็น everything ,something, Question Tag ต้องใช้ isn’t it ?
- Everything is good, isn’t it ? ทุกอย่างเรียบร้อยดีใช่ไหม
9. ถ้าประโยคหลักเป็น “ประโยคคำสั่ง หรือ ขอร้อง” ประโยค Question Tag ต้องใช้ will you, won’t you
- Please stop talking, will you? กรุณาหยุดคุย ได้ไหม
- Cook lunch for me, will you? ทำอาหารกลางวันให้ฉัน ได้ไหม
- Let the cat go now, will you? ปล่อยแมวไปเดี๋ยวนี้ ได้ไหม
